Our Story
Built on passion, craftsmanship, and a legacy passed down through generations.
Barry began working on manual gearboxes in the early 1980s alongside his father, who was a skilled mechanic. At a time when most vehicles were still running 4-speed gearboxes, Barry was learning the fundamentals of mechanical precision hands-on in the workshop.
As the automotive industry evolved, so did Barry's expertise. When 5-speed gearboxes emerged in the late 1980s, new technical challenges and reliability issues began to surface. Barry was at the forefront of diagnosing, repairing, and rebuilding these systems, gaining invaluable experience as gearbox technology advanced.
Through the decades, Barry continued to work across a wide range of manual gearboxes, from early mechanical designs to modern multi-gear transmissions. When 6-speed gearboxes arrived, Barry was already recognised for his deep technical knowledge and problem-solving ability.
Today, in 2026, Barry brings over 30 years of hands-on experience in manual gearbox repair and rebuilds. His work is rooted in the same principles he learned from his father: precision, honesty, and pride in craftsmanship.
"Barry Gearbox is more than a workshop — it's a legacy of engineering expertise, built on decades of dedication and trust."
